Dynamism beyond normal

What is the concept of normal? Many of the entrepreneurs and leaders that are out there, taking great risks, being visionaries, leaders, and having bold ambitions, did not focus their lives on fitting in and being normal. There is so much pressure on people , especially young people on fitting in. They get inside your head and tell you you have to be normal, you have to act this way, and that way, to subscribe to a certain way of thinking. Yet most of the leaders who have accomplished great things have thought differently, they've thought outside the box, and extended themselves creatively. A lot of the times it's more than just belief, you have to beat procrastination, engage with people who are different to you that you can learn them.

Believing in Your Potential

It is important to believe in your potential, believe in who you are and what you can do, believe in the possibilities that are out there, where others see lack , you must see the gap you must see the opportunity. Wether it's volunteering, wether it's work experience, the chance to engage others to connect, to communicate , to showcase your strength, your ideas, to allow your skill set to be shown and the value you can add to the company to be acknowledged. What can you bring to the table, of the company you are trying to integrate yourself with.

Do you have excellent communication skills, are you a great networker, great negotiation skills, knowledge of finance and economics, knowledge of bidding and procurement, knowledge of marketing, and SEO , of different social media brands and algorithms and how to acquire high profile on each platform

It is important that you show all your strengths and your experiences, how did you use your time in other work or social scenarios to extend yourself, and develop your skills. What did you learn, what programs, did you put in place? How did you position yourself with the marketing team, did you help with strategy, with ideas for innovation, how about other areas like campaign ideas, ways the companies could get sponsorship, ways the companies could get grant funding and finance. Were you ever introduced to the partners or key leaders at any events, did you organise any events, and how if you entered the company would you manage your time if you were given a role. It's always about adding value.

Individuals are often promoted or hired in the first place into key positions or roles, because they have the ability to add value to the firm in one way or another. The company believes they are a valued asset, they have the potential to encourage the expansion of the companies fruitfulness and improve development. Which means companies will look at who their hiring, pay attention to the CV, although there are new programs and software that is allowing managers to avoid looking at cv's in bulk, you can engage hiring managers on sites like linkedin, check out applications on otta.com, and apply for jobs by engaging the people in charge.

Follow up with emails. Make phone calls if you can. Find out what recruitment programs are available at the job centre, job fairs, work fairs, career programs, go to networking events, you never know who knows what. The more you network, the more you know.

Try and build excellent communication skills , pay attention to little things you can ask the other person on the phone, little jokes you can make to relax them so they warm up to you and remember you,.for example you can say I imagine it's been hectic in the office, and you understand their looking forward to lunch break, pay attention to little gaps in the conversation. Listening is always the way you get in. Conversations have holes, and those holes have opportunities. Those opportunities give you access. When I used to go to church the pastor would always say to us your blessings will always come through speech, it will be something someone shares with you, it is the power of the spoken word. People often abuse information because it's too available, but when you apply information it gives you access. When I used to have meetings with investors when I first tried to l launch my businesses, they were all talking about what was trending in the fintech markets. Data.

All the investors were investing capital in data. Data utilised and gathered in the right way, from things like memberships subscribers, audiences, hubs, many of my concepts began with this introductions, so I often attracted a lot of investor friends, contacts and connections. They were eager to talk to me about how I came up with some of these concepts, and ideas, some of my concepts for platforms, for projects, for even hubs.  Were very intriguing to these individuals because they had the mind for it, they had the vision , and also they had the access to realise these kinds of projects. It's often about making sure you have all the right resources.

Sun Gal (Poetry by Otatade Okojie)

Sun gal (For Otatade)

I am the sun;
I am the Earth
I have been rain
I have been dirt
I'm a shadow in corners,
A celebrity in sight
I am contagious,
But I'm not always right.
Were learning,
We are;
Two dolphins in the ocean
Knowledge is backwards
Sometimes in slow motion
I am the king,
Amongst a tribe of his men
I am the villagers who hover
And then
I am the janitor
Striving for keep
Toiling over time
And under time in his sleep;
I am the wisdom
I am the glory
I am the meaning
In an old prophets story
I am your patience,
I am your mind,
I am the challenge
Beelzebul Want's to find
Started from everything
From ten down to one
I am still the ocean
I still the sun.
Goliath may be growing
David keeps on
Going,
The strength in me
Will rise hundred fold
For Behold,
I AM THE SUN
I am god's gold

The cat near the hot tin roof ( Otatade Okojie Poetry)

The cat near the hot tin roof,

Was careful where it stepped,
It didn't want to burn it's toes
Or accidentally break it's neck,
It didn't want to scrape over,
And blaze it's fur,
So it kept it's distance,
Not going Near,
But cat,
The roof has cooled now,
But still it purrs ,
When will you climb
And brace your wall,
So you can hold your head up tall,
Night turns to day,
Day turns to night,
This tired cat ,
Has wall in Sight,
This creature,
So regal,
So bold,
And so brave,
Meditates on how to behave,

Which way do I climb,
Without getting burnt,
But cat things have turned
And you should have learnt,
You can't go this way, that way or that,
You should be ready to face your spat.
Day turns to night and night turns to day,
Disapointedly the cat meows away.

SEDATIVE LIFE (SHORT STORY)

“ I am terrified of letting the world in. It’s not the worlds fault, i am scared to let go.”  My name is Mylene Klausman. Yesterday my boyfriend played Anthony Robbins in the car for the last time. Jesus, it was killing me. Not Robbins, My guy, total hypocrisy. “ This guy changed my life Mylene!” he announces over the speakers, yet everything stays the same. Our routines are the same, we get up at 7.30, i actually get up at 8 but he wakes me up with all the pacing up and down the house. Or sometimes he’s up at four and he decides to switch the lamplight on and talk about politics or something just to hear his own voice. I think we are growing apart, or two different people, the sentence is rehearsed over and over in my head. It claims every space in my mind, yet in the early hours i am sticky with sweat, after intense lovemaking. After conversations that trail deep into the night, where i find myself second guessing myself because Eden is getting way too intense. “There’s a guy,” I tell my friend Reno as she pulls up to my house in her navy blue Sedan. “ Shit there’s a guy and im practically married,”

“ Who, what, where, and when?” She lowers her tinted hugo boss shades to reveal stunning blue eyes. I like her new bob as well, everything is Slick and organized, Midnight black hair, exotic features and razor sharp cheekbones. Some guy said Reno looks like Angelina Jolie, personally ive seen her look way better. Then again im in awe. I slip into the seat of the blue Sedan. “ Look were matching,” she dots a kiss on my cheek, were both wearing  blue denim catsuits. “ Its not Tommy is it?”

“ Tommy who?” she puts the car into first gear. “ Thomas Denton, plays Basketball for the Rovers, prefect, perfect, uhhmmmn” she flutters her lashes. I cackle.

“ No im with Eden remember.”

“ Are you happy?” We are steering the car down Crossharbour Road, down Lucas Avenue near the local Mcdonalds. “ Im happy.” I lie. Do I remember what happy feels like? I wonder if I have become a sedative self, I smile when im supposed too, laugh when im supposed too, I feel like a puppy that’s being petted when his parents come over, “go on Myle sit.” I imagine myself with huge furry ears being propped on a dog matt, begging for a bone or some affection. Then there’s him. So I say it out loud because Reno, knows the Him syndrome, when some stranger invades your mind and your senses, you are hypnotized. “ His name is Aidan Rothschild, he sits in the third row in Science, and in the library he watched me for a whole hour, I didn’t even know he was looking,”

“ Nice,” Reno offers pulling out a stick of gum at the traffic lights. “ A Rothschild. I know about them. Damn their rich, devilishly handsome as well.Describe please,” I smile guiltily at the memory. I pin him to be 6 ft five Midnight hair, eyes so dark their almost purple, yet there’s a soft hue of brown in them. His features are strong Aqualine, he has a thick jaw, and long sweeping lashes. When he put his hands up and spoke, I swear on my whole entire life, id never heard anybody sound like that. It was a deep tone, his voice is like a song, I found myself being seduced in with every syllable. I instantly turned into one of those girls Annie Elkry is one of those girls and I hate her for it, overly inquisitive, what does he eat? What does he like? What does he do for fun? Why did he pick our School? And whats so interesting about me? I look up from the book im pretending to read, its awful. Our eyes connect across the Library hall, my eyes flicker away nervously. My stomach dances as he rises from his seat. Tall drink of water, that’s what he is, and he’s heading my way. I smoothe a tongue across my wrinkled lips and then watch in horror as Eden makes his way over to me. He is wearing his muddied tracksuit, I noticed the tall drink of water has a name tag. New students are put through this Orientation workshop, they have to wear name tags. He’s left his on. I study the name on the badge. Adrian Rothschild. He ducks his head and dodges Eden narrowly swerving as they almost collide. I like his scent. A trail of soft tobacco. As he walks away, our eyes connect once more, there is mystery there, and intrigue. Eden stands over my shoulder eyeing us suspiciously. “ Do you know that guy?”

“ No,” not yet, im thinking. Eden scratches his head. “ Guy looks like trouble.” Eden clears his throat. Aidan reminds me of someone like me, someone keeping a big secret. Grandma says I have an eye for it. “ Those grey eyes of yours girl, always exposing the invisible. You’ve got your mothers eyes.” But mothers eyes got her into a lot of trouble. My mother was murdered two years ago when I was sixteen, she was a journalist, and my father is still convinced it was something she saw. Someone she saw the day before she died. I remember how scary it was that she seemed so calm on the surface, yet when she thought id turned my back that day , her voice was manic and erratic. Her words were like someone choking, terrified, “ They’ll find out the truth,” she’d shouted. “ He’ll know, they will know. There’s nowhere to run, just come clean.” But whoever it was never came clean, and my mother disappeared for a week until her body was found by the river bed, Frozen and naked.  I don’t think I cried. I think I was numb for a long time, id been programmed for bad things. My mother was strangled to death. I had thought for weeks about her last few minutes, what was her final word, then for years, it haunted me. Id see her murderer in smiles from friends, in people who hugged and offered condolences, those who laughed at jokes too hard, everyone became a suspect. “ Still day dreaming about Mr wrong?” I snapped back into the present. “Were here.” Reno and I had pulled up outside Elmhurst high School, im never ready for this place. I lie, like ive become accustomed too.” Yeah maybe ill see him.” I take a deep breath as we step out of the car. I feel a sense of forboding. There is something coming, there is something about that guy. Whatever secret he’s keeping, its more than a curiosity now. Then I think of Eden. Do I delve into adventure, or return to a sedative life?

Sophisticated Sophelia Goes against the Grain

Gone Against the Grain

I’m such a huge advocate for being fearlessly yourself and embracing our individuality. Why you ask?... Well let me ask you this, why do we need to be like someone else? Why do we all have to be the same? If you’re unable to answer that question, that is exactly it, it’s because we’re not meant to be the Joe next door but the person we were born to be.

I believe life is like one big puzzle and each of us are the pieces that make up the picture. Each of us are created and shaped for a particular place in this puzzle. We are born and destined with a purpose. But how can we fulfil our purpose when we are trying to be like each other and “fit” in because we want to be able to feel like ‘we belong’. For half my life I felt the same way, I wanted to fit in and feel like I belonged to a particular group or arena to the point where I altered my character, personality and even the way I dressed just to be accepted amongst “friends”.

One day I became tired of pretending, tired of being someone I’m not and having to suppress the person I knew I was becoming.  That day was the lightening that struck the tree. I chose to no longer care what people thought of me and worry about their judgements, I just wanted to be… Me. Me-Sophelia. Me –the person that never stops dancing. Me – the energetic, bubbly person with the quirky style. Me – the person who is meant to be the best version of myself and not the best version of Jane, Lauren or Sue.

I came to realise how we are continually force fed the idea that we need to aspire to this so called unrealistic “ideal person”, through media, magazines, adverts and even expectations of others that demands us to feel like being us is not good enough or it’s not ok to be our self. Well, let me tell you something – It’s more than ok to be you. I’m sorry but, ‘why be someone else when you were born amazing?’ Through all this encouragement to self-condemn I realised how important it is to proudly accept who we are and understand that we should be our self, embrace our individuality and how important it is to become your best self so we can find and fulfil our purpose.

Through this long thought provoking and riveting journey the road lead me to where I am right now, starting my brand and blog- ‘Gone Against the Grain’, encouraging people to simply and solely be themselves and PROUD. It is one of the best decisions I have ever made in my life, to help people who want to be themselves and find their purpose.

Being an individual isn’t about being an out-cast or “different” or odd but about creating a league of your own and breaking boundaries. We were all uniquely made and the reason is in our life’s purpose. I believe life is like one big puzzle and each of us are the pieces that make up the picture. Where do you fit in?

I’ve’ gone against the grain, you can too.

Raising the bar 4 billion hits

Do not deny yourself the luxury of taking on this challenge. These goals will transform you, they will educate you, and you will grow. Great leaders like Richard Branson know rejection is part of the process, there is no invite to your failures, and the world dances jubilantly as you cry into a bottle. As a writer I cried many a time with frustration, why didn't they like my work, why didn't they get my message. Until I learned the art of digital marketing and strategy. I have now written over 200 books, and ten in the lunchbox millionaire series. Lunchbox has just been picked up by a publisher, and I have produced my second ebook for creative's called the art of digital marketing. This book has not yet been released but subscribe and It has all the tips and tricks on how to do what I did, find a niche in the market, corner it and engage with your audience. I'm currently working on two new novels epiclipto and the detectives series. The detectives is about a detective with multiple personality disorder, when he finds himself in the frame for the murder of an abusive father, he has to step back and begin to investigate the crime at hand. Did he do it, or was it someone with a greedy motive.

The challenge comes when your brain merrily tells you, you are tired, you must put pen down, you must step away from keyboard. Yet even I have to admit dealing with epilepsy has made me stubborn, and I've always believed to live an extraordinary life, you have to take extraordinary action. Action encourages movement, movement heightens momentum, until you are in the throes of something that has completely consumed you. Enjoy the journey, celebrate the near misses, passes, goals, because you are on your way.

once we were kings

It's not a competition
I just want you to know
Once upon a smile
These dark skins were king
No banana peel
Shape shifter pods
We were the mules
Of a whipping sun
Whose volcanic flame
Would make you hide
In the very dark
Where fear itself eats.
Shhh! Let me tell
You a story
Not of backstory
Or cotton farms
Ripe with alarm
That you came
From a line
Where Jesus sat,
A nappy haired man
Who hunkered for chain
Then came the strain
Of things being removed
Ink rebel rebels
Would dance their groove
And army's would bulk
More unafraid
Refusing to be
Slave to shame
Or the bitter resentment
Of topsy turvy worlds,
Where cane would arrive
And spirits would soak
Yesterday's thoughts
We held our marbles
We couldn't be bought

The timelessness of youth

It is not uncouth
That body as Vessel
Maintains youth
The bliss of Rainbows
Escaping skies
And as we age the brain quiz
why
and why not?
When you could catch
a cloud upon your tongue
Climb the height of
Fears iron rung
Kaleidoscope you were
Indestructible
and as we smile
with hair untamed
These are the years
Our memories claim.

Captured inbetween

Deep in between
Engine oil pain
Puss of old love
Yellowing as the
Wound continues
The root of pain we
Decide unnecessary
I am my today,
And not yesterday
I am the eyes that
Seek a different
Love
The hands that
Yearn to kiss new flesh
And the smile that craves it's
Polaroid existence
As champagne rivers
Drown us in irony,
And the tears which
Turn eyes to glass
Belch out the
History of our mistake
Our hopscotch youth
Recycles itself
And the whisper of fear
Leaves breadcrumbs in the darkness.

Knowing what to pay attention to

When I was younger and I had to fight my way through high school, I had a poor Habbit. It was a Habbit that made me popular with my peers, infamous for being gutsy, rowdy and fearless. I tuned my ears, tight, and would listen carefully to all the negative things other girls might have to say about me. Nasty comments, put downs, if someone was trying to bully me or make me the butt of their joke, I would confront them publicly. Ensuring that other people saw how weak they were. Despite the voracity of which I fought back, I began to feel negative about myself. Years and years later I realise my mistake. People will talk no matter what you do. Some of the greatest people in history were ridiculed and torn down, they translated the negative into a positive. They left the talkers to talk whilst they focused on building their self esteem. Growing and enhancing their authenticity. When people tear us down it can be devastating, it rakes up old wounds, different insecurities can be hurled up like vomit. Yet in the long run its not what other people think of you that defines your stance in life, it's what you think of you. Are you gonna waste time putting your ear to the wall to take in poison, or are you gonna focus on healing and growth.
