White Oleander By: Janet Fitch Narrated by: Oprah Winfrey

Subscribe to my channel @OtatadeOkojie https://youtu.be/3bkEXtxAMaw
White Orleander one of my favourite reads of all time by Janet Fitch is a book that is both compelling and engaging. This book is captivating, and hypnotic. Poetic and an emotive read. It tells the story of Ingrid , a charismatic and enchantic poet who is imprisoned for murder after poisoning a lover and the after effects her crime has on her daughter. Her daughters journey in between foster home to home, the different people she meets, and her experience of love. It is overall a look at love, the dangers of love becoming obsession. Questioning love itself from a young girls perspective, a young girl who has experienced pain, and loss, and deals with the narcissim of her mother, and her need to still be loved and nurtured despite her mothers selfishness and hunger for her own independence. The characters are unique, dynamic, and it is aninteresting portrayal of a mother and daughters love and relationship, the challenges, the ups, the downs, and the fight to retain a bond although there is distance. We follow both characters and her young daughter Astrid. This is an amazing read, pick it up when you can.

George's Marvellous Medicine By: Roald Dahl Narrated by: Derek Jacobi

Please subscribe to my channel @OtatadeOkojie https://youtu.be/3bkEXtxAMaw
Presenting a mischievous new reading of Roald Dahl's George's Marvellous Medicine, read by BAFTA-winning comedian Romesh Ranganathan. This immersive audiobook is Georges Marvellous Medicine is one of my favourite Roald Dahl reads of all time, along with Matilda. It is a hillarious book about a young man producing a ridiculous concoction for his very nasty Grandmother. Grandma is both mean spirited, miserable, and mean. George creates a character and a story that will have you in both hysteria, and puzzling over whats in your meal, and who youve been engaging with lately. George a young man is left at home alone with Grandma, Grandma is kranky, mean spirited and very very miserable.A very mischievous read, Grandma is awful to George, and not much nicer to his parents either. We join George as he is put in charge of Grandmas medicine, a humorous book that looks at a childs ability to deal with a difficult adult.Although Grandma is a nightmare, what has us in laughing hysteria is Georges creative concoction, the ingredients he infuses in this awful medicine both to punish, yet for us to entertain. This book is highly entertaining, a read that will have you on the floor, this book is hillarious. Roald Dahl strikes again, the magic ingredients are both George, and Dahls dynamic use of language and ability to show such interesting colourful characters. Dahl is once again wizard with a pen.

Carlos Ruiz 's The shadow of the Wind is a phenomenal book that delves into Magic realism it is a read that is both spellbinding, captivating , hypnotic and transformative. This book eclipses many other titles ive read in the magic realism genre, showcasing his ability to illustrate and develop an engaging charismatic young storyteller. The novel is about young Daniel whois invited by his father to the'cemetry of the lostbooks' in the Cityof Barcelona. An obscure Labyrinthe, a treasure trove of forgotten books. Danielon that special morning of 1945 discoversthe La Sombra del Viento by Julian Carax a book which transformshislife, and takes himona series of adventures. As Daniel ages Several people become interested in this jewel, and one nighthe is approached by a figure who reminds him of a character from La Sombra del Viento, a character who turns out to be the devil. This character is tracking down every copy of carax's work in order to burn them. Yet what begins as a curious adventure from someone with literary intrigue turns into a quest to find out the Life and death of Julian Carax and save those that were left behind.
This exciting read, unveils the story of Daniel the seeker of truth and a new literary scholar and tells a story of such magic, and mysticism. Painting pictures with images you loose yourself in. Animating scenes. The language and prose is written with such divinepoetic sensitivities,Zaffron sculpts He is a magician ,drawing us an artist, enchanting, and crafting a story, befriending you with the magic of his pen manship, This story is captivating it claims you, Zaffron is a great storyteller, you are hooked as you flip from page to page scene to scene. Lines such as " like the city awoke, like a water colour," he is an artiste," his pen is the paintbrush Each line is a brush stroke, painting vivid images, transporting you into a realm of creativity. With Zaffrons work we see books as more than just pages with literature and content, but access,a passport into existence a creative portal. The Man who walked for Miles (Otatade Okojie Poetry)

The man who walked for miles,
Just doesn't exist,
I commend the ideal
That one should persist
But hey;
This man had to rest,
And stop and catch his breath,
Otherwise he would fall and catch his death.
He even looked back into the past,
That didn't stop him from moving fast,
No.
Sometimes, this brave tired old man as he,
Had to go back in time and see,
What was on his mind,
What he'd left behind,
And turn then walk away.
This is the story of the man that walked for miles,
Who had his burden slung on his shoulder,
Who travelled on,
Who kept strong,
Till he was older,
Much older,
For time never stops,
Doesn't just start and never finish,
Time and change,
Does not diminish.
This man now rests,
Legs stretched to unfold,
Without this journey,
His quest would never be told.

Storm Clouds in Fiction

Storm cloud

Once we were fiction
Caught in the rough
Distilled in a poem
Broken enough
These words
They would chide
Us
Our season so dim
Hack us to pieces
Making us thin
I stand on an Island
Caught in a  war
Reaching out to your
Fiction
Thats bleeding me raw

Now we are fiction

Soon we are smoke

What was this love?

I cannot cope

No Sweeping Sundays

 No sweeping Sunday

A rest from pain

A chattering Mind

My dulling brain

Gladiator rises

With Trojan steps

Each walk i take

The ground has cleft

For whewn i fell

I so was bruised

Battered

Small

Flame

Diffused

And now i march

To lions Gate

Just so Goliath

Can see my

Fate

 Excerpt from Chapter 11

Who is this girl? I’m so caught off guard it’s all I can do to keep my mouth closed. I stopped listening to her babble and took a step into her, walking her slowly back till her back is against the wall. Her eyes are huge and her lips are slightly parted. I bring my hands up to her face, my thumbs barely touching her cheeks as I glide them back and forth. I pull her to me, slipping a hand around her neck and brushing my lips over hers. I pull back, putting my forehead against hers. Closing my eyes, I inhale her deeply. I can smell the wine and chocolate on her. The underlying dessert scented lotion from earlier, still lingering on her skin. I could eat her up.

This scintilating read will knock your socks off, with inviting, extraordinary characters, why not escape into a world of dynamo's today. Pick up House of Marchetti and be blown away, sensuos, erotic, and stunning. Pick up your read now, A sexy read for the siren in you.

Seen your Face

I have seen your face
Splinters of torment
Disecting me
Luring me into your seaping wounds
Those souless eyes
Cloaked in Shadow
Mourning the loss
Of a spirit
Within
I have seen your eyes
Empty
and black
a tongue
Void of dialogue
A gaping hole
In a mouth
Where teeth
are nothing more
Than bone

Another self

Another self
Unmasking pain
I loosen the rope
You tighten the reigns
So much acid
From this Nightingales beak
Yet this isnt a dream
I am not asleep
The sandman watches
From beside my bed
Voices shriek
Angry in my head
A shiver runs
along my spine
It was not there
Those days you were mine
For days we would flash
Polaroid smiles at the world
Our Joy in infinity
Animated girls
I loosen the rope
You tighten the reigns
Determined to relinquish
Some of this pain

Glitterball

The things you miss
about the faces that claimed
Your day
people who are just passing
Time
with
You
Scared of aging
I miss the flash of
White teeth
A polaroid of precision
gated bones
Celebrating snatches
from a postcard of Joy
Talling me how happy
You were to see me
Your warm embrace
The honey of your soft
Voice
Like the kiss of
butter
I miss my friend
whose laugh would
erupt
like a Volcano
Turning grown men into
Bludshing yet pulsing
Schoolboys
Spasms of conversations
Lost in the magic
of a Glimpse
Speech bubble people
Eager to be popped
Ripe for connecting
I miss your walk
Like a dance
The shimmy of Limbs
everytime you stepped
Into a room
You were like a
Dazzling Glitterball
Your eyes shone like
Jewels
For there was
Something special
About you

The Libra

"Dare i say it"
Mother speaks
laying a blanket
Of Cinnamon Pancakes
With honeyed syrup
and a fly
pinned to the top
"This is my gesture of love"
I eye it with discontent
Pancakes before our normal
Breakfast time
My stepmothers attempt
at Friendship
once more
Flawed and imprecise
Like her
Pancakes with a fly
On top
No jewellery
Of stainless steel
Diamante earing pods
No hemmed skirt
For a little Princess
Patchwork
Vintage
Olden style
Elizabeth Taylor Iconique
Pancakes with Honeyed Syrup
and a smile
A semi nude
Coffee skinned woman
in a blue velvet Gown
waterfall midnight hair
And eyes like starlets
"You are getting to know me," i extend
"I will keep the damsel as a souvernir,"
For she has negotiated her way
into my house
This coffee skinned woman
Her libran scales of balance
Providing new
seasons of comfort

A Strange Thing

There is something strange
About the young one
This young seedling
Lopsided grin
Fringe
Hooded eyes
Masking a sea of discontent
An Opium of Longing
Something odd about
The veins like
tentacles
This Octopus
needing to be loved
Yet so desolate
an Island
A separate being
There is something
strange about the way
Every action
is a question mark
As though she would
Quiz her own
reflection
And her shadow
would trudge off
in Confusion
It is puzzling
To be lost
In a skin
That belongs
To you

Elasticity

He said he loved you
So he took you
There,
A dance with Gypsies
A summoning
of Gods
War Gods
Sea Gods
Sky and Sun
He exploded into
A million fireworks
All over your bosom
Tainting you
With his cells
He said
He loved you
So he took you
There
Beyond The moist
Past Elasticity

Tastebud

Run with wolves
Let your hair
Fly freely
There is a spark
Of electricity
between your fingertips
A salsa in your hips
Magic on your tongue
You are young
Still
baptise yourself
In the warmth
Of the Sun
Love is a tastebud
Swallowing
You
Whole

Little girl dreaming

Once upon a dreamer
With her once upon a time
Those myths i once told you
Could unravel
you in time
Neatly stitched
Like the hem of a skirt
Look at all the threading
Patchwork and fabric
Little girl
Mother says you dream too hard
Where are all your fingers
Itchy fingers
Itchy thumbs
make them nimble
Make them numb
Will you be eaten by a
Vortex of dreams
Sink into pillow
Wanted by Sandman
Mother says little Girls
By the Bayou
must Toil
Disipline and habbit
Doesnt unfoil
Keep the dream
Like a postcard in your pocket
Dare you not lose it
My treasure
Lock it

Chalk and Cheese

Mother says
were like chalk and cheese
It makes me nervous
It makes me sneeze
For things in life
I sure do want
He tells me i shouldn't
Tells me i cant
You do not dream
The way i dream
paint skies with
Mush
Or icecream
To lurk
beside thoughts
That reside
within cobwebs
To see hungry arachnids
Still eager
To be fed
I have marched Vikings
Black and blue
Had meetings
With Ali
About what dreams
amount to
When others see
me
They cross pavements instead
For fear im a highlander
Too inside my head
Yet to dream
And oh but a merry dream
is like a gasp of air
One day
You will see me there
A self within a dream
Flesh and bone
I will connect the dots
And make my way
Home.

Lucky Penny

The creative caption
is hidden in the fold
Caught between the blankets
Of a life which
plans to scold
An unkempt you
For such tiresome risk
Your fighting a self
Yet there are no fist
A shadow stalks
To claim your flesh
To claim the laughter
and what is left
Was it something
You predicted
Something
cause
planned t'would
be afflicted
For the siren voice
That cried
a noun of Wolf
Looking for ways
To play his golf
And picking pennies
From a busy floor

Toil

Toil at the struggle, the seed in the soil
You must work hard
To produce your oil
For others are watching
And green eyed they will be
With mouths that run amock
Trying to Pythagoras
Theorem me
Yet as you develop structure
As you develop plan
Do not be a sheep
Do not be a lamb
For winter will be coming
And so will all the wolves
To eat upon your flesh
If you haven’t been to school

Extraordinary

Its necessary
To be extraordinary
In a world of mediocre
Where misery
Believes
Its sober
Where lack of joy
Believes it will triumph
And envy
Thinks it will gain
Its stump
