Love as a shield

Love yourself, arm yourself with an over abundance of self love, admiration, celebrate your successes, because you deserve it. You deserve to laugh, smile, joke, be happy, confident, boisterous, charismatic, but most of all appreciated. In life we meet all sorts, and sadly we meet those who try and tear us down. If it means standing in front of a mirror for hours filling your head with positive affirmations, compulsively celebrating the things you can accomplish, plan to accomplish, believe that you are unstoppable, in your attempts at self growth healing, and confidence. We arm ourselves with self love so those who try and pull us down can fail terribly.

How to deal with a passive aggressive control freak

Laugh their control issues into oblivion. Most controlling people have one thing in common, they are extremely insecure, make that two, and extremely paranoid. If your fun and bubbly, somehow the passive aggressive person convinces themselves, well not all, the extremely insecure passive aggressive person. Convinces themselves that somehow you will outshine them and take everything away from them, somehow their insecurities are worn like a bracelet or a chain around their neck. The more you try and relax them, the more insecure they become. It's because these inferiority complexes don't stem from you it originates with unresolved issues they have, everyone in life has something that we've either been through or are trying desperately to resolve.

When dealing with a passive aggressive control freak, if you find that the more miserable you feel the happier they are. Don't complain, flip the switch. Moaning aint honing. It's their need to be centre of everything. If you sense that this person gets a kick out of your misery, laugh often and laugh loudly. If you have to put on comedy, if you have to give them a nickname in your head. I actually nicknamed one of mine, the 'evil giant cockroach', these people are not happy within themselves so they cant bare to see others happy. Someone once said people cannot give you what they do not have, that's exactly what they don't have. Happiness. So focus on being happy within you. Laughing within you, celebrating who you are, and not living in fear or dealing with the burden of other people's stuff. They feel bad about themselves so ....happiness is healing, happiness is medicine. Be happy, and fight for it. Don't let anyone steal your joy, you worked hard to get it.

Dark and Delicious: How to be confident within your own skin

There is a huge debate about how dark skinned people are treated in comparison to their fairer skinned counter parts in ethnic communities. From being called things like blique, which is an insult used in the black community to say your as black as charcoal, to being told you would be more attractive if you were a fairer skinned complexion, some darker skinned people argue that they get given an unfair rap. As though being dark is bad in some way. Are dark skin is negative. Here is my argument in every corner of the world you will find ignorant jealous people, the thing about envy is it can often be rationalised. Someone can convince you that there's something wrong with you, a quality,  a skill, a character, an asset, because they secretly want it. If they have people around them who imitate what they do and what they say, if your naieve enough you can be convinced that there's something wrong with you and allow other people to steal the joy from your life.

Here's an example for years a jealous woman kept desperately trying to get me down, she felt inferior because she wasn't likable, had never been popular, and people seemed to gravitate towards me rather than towards her. I am outgoing, bubbly, fun, a free spirit, young, and of course I am of a darker skin tone. I also after years of reading and taking pride in academics, believe that wisdom and words are more powerful and more important than looking good to those around you. Because I was different, and because she was bitter and jealous, because she felt lonely at times and inadequate, she convinced those around her, especially those who took an interest in me, that there was something wrong with me. The way I looked, the way I talked, the way I spoke, jealous and determined to make me feel bad and be ashamed of who I was she tried every cause of bullying and low class ridicule and manipulation that was at her disposal. From getting family to chant "uggghlhh disgusting!! she's disgusting!! she's this, she's that!! she's ugly!!" this manipulative, insecure jealous, petty and insecure woman had to feel as though she was winning in some way. Whilst trying to befriend family members, because as is always the case the same people who want to tear you down, do it because they want to get close to you, and they want to take your place in some way.

For women who have experienced negative treatment and put downs and have been insulted about skin tone, and colour, and culture, celebrate yourself no matter what. This behaviour comes from their own self loathing. I cant tell you the amount of times it's happened to me, or I've had friends tell me that they were called ugly, and put down and ridiculed by someone, called things like monkey by their own race, had guys of the opposite sex, laugh at them, really degrade them to the point of bullying only to find out later on that these guys wanted to ask them out or get close to them in some way. Look beyond how you feel at the moment. What could be the real agenda? People often try and make us feel small because they feel inferior, jealous, or inadequate in some way. Be confident in your own skin.

God made no mistakes when he made you. If people have a problem with you, it's their problem.  Life wasn't made according to their rules, they don't have the monopoly, they didn't invent the game and if they did, they'd be happier playing it. They'd have less energy moaning and being miserable mithering others. Celebrate who you are. This is your life you only live it once. If they want to talk 'screw them, their losers anyway," do you think people with self esteem, people who are happy, less insecure about themselves, are happy in their own lives, care what skin tone you are? They wanna meet new people, they want to have fun, they wanna celebrate life.

The fight to stay happy

Happiness. It's a fight. We have to fight to be happy, and when you are happy, you have to fight to stay happy, because your joy will carry you through many obstacles in your life. We fail when we give up on ourselves, and when you see only darkness you are destined to. People take for granted the importance of being happy. When i was younger and finding my feet, even until recently. I thought strength was all about being able to show people how angry you are, all that teenage angst, evolving into adult chips on our shoulders. I thought strength was the big mouth that hollers in the street, and the person who talks the biggest. Strength is so much more than that. Claiming your victory, holding unto your happiness, and outrightly refusing to let anybody steal your spirit. Happiness are the thoughts that we choose to focus on day in and day out. You are what you believe in. Your faith, your dreams, your ambitions, your essence, how many people do we allow to steal our happiness day in and day out. Your joy belongs to you. Even if your in the park on your own, out on the street, in your bedroom alone, wherever you are, wether you vocalise it, or speak it internally... claim it. Your joy is yours it belongs to you. "This joy is mine!My joy belongs to me." Laugh as loudly as you can, smile to every single person you meet, grin and celebrate all the little things. Live life with gratitude because your still here and your still standing. We will always cross paths with negative people that trigger our alarm systems, cross the street and hold unto your piece of mind. It's easy to engage with them, but when you do nobody ever really wins. Focus on building yourself up, staying positive and staying happy.

Reason and Respect

We have to find ways to validate who we are, respect ourselves and honour our own existence; If you are someone who falls under the sweet spell of flattery too easily, beware.. A poison tongue is on it's way. Words have power. And if you let other people's words control you, they will mold you into something you don't recognise. When I was younger I had two female friends who I'll never forget. They were attractive young women who got quite a bit of male attention. They had both been comfortable with me in a supportive role, being a shadow whilst they were allowed to shine and show the best of themselves, counsel them about everything in relation to men, basically be the friend that helps them dissect and overanalyse everything, yet when there was a shift and I wanted to focus on my own life, and fix some of the problems that had arisen, there became a problem.

So long as i wasn't getting attention everything was fine. If i went ignored or they sensed i was rejected in some way, there was a sort of relief that they shared. It was only years later that i realised both these two women had been jealous of me. Despite their own qualities and their own strengths. At the time one of my supposed friends drove a sports car, she'd climbed to an upstanding position in her job, and when we were out she got a lot of male attention. Yet i would consistently recieve these stinging biting remarks, and every so often a stranger would come along and actually compliment me. The looks i'd recieved from her, or the scathing comments, were enough to make me run a million miles. In true form as well people like this, they'll put you down, ridicule you, belittle you, until you dont trust them. The irony is, they actually want you to like them, and they want you to trust them. They actually want to be close to you. Who knows why? Maybe your a nice person and you have a kind heart, maybe your popular and outgoing, laugh easily, are fun, bubbly, and likable, are confident. There's something about you that makes them draw near. Focus on building your self up. Fix your focus.

Building yourself to bonus: How to stay positive when others tear you down

It's easy to start tearing yourself down because others do. We make the mistake of thinking we have to agree with everyone. If someone tries to tear you down, ridicule you, make you look small so they can look and feel important. Remember they have an agenda, and that agenda wont get them very far. Whatever you do, dont get caught up in their mess, don't find yourself drowning in their issues, because you're better than them, and that's why they tried to pull you down in the first place. Laugh as loudly as you possibly can, be as happy as you are, and as loving as possible over and over and over again. Let their misery rot them and not you. Sometimes we even try to reach out to those who have belittled us or made us feel small, because in our hearts, we want to show that we are better people. Focus on your life, and on your journey. Karma is a very busy bee, it catches up to even those that think they are above it. Fight for your happiness, and live your life. You only get one.Don't let someone negative live in your head rent free, keep your head up, embrace the positive things in the universe, give love, recieve love, and choose wisely. You are worthy of respect.
